Winter #1

Put a short track in wooded area on leaves and dirt (no grass) Aged 1 hour. Wanted a positive experience with high reward scent pads (leftover club sandwich meat & cheese) at 5 and 10. Approach and start I thought were consistent with the 3 start tracks we did before Christmas. When I laid this track I did not know there was going to be a natural burial funeral in the space at 11. The distractions preparing for the service when Otis ran the track were great-2 people talking, the gator on the left, traffic on the dirt road to the right. He stopped and ate at both scent pads. Then stopped at the food drop at 30. I did long scuffing steps when I laid the track because of the leaf and dirt cover. He made the turn well and retrieved the article.

  1. Augmented well. He can handle more distance for sure. Thank you for interrupting the stare off. And for me, while I might practice it a time or two, I would not repeat articles at tree base. I was surprised he picked it up after marking. The article was not his priority LOL.

  2. This was nice. I am a littler concerned that your SP are always the same distances. It might be valuable to put them at 5 & 8 just to see if he digs in and keeps going, or is disappointed it’s not where he expects it. And, make sure he tracks to the first one, as I am concerned that he’s actually starting at the SP and not at the flag.
As far as articles at the base of a tree, I agree with MA. It does happen, but rarely. Articles between trees are more common, and can offer the same challenge.
