Winter #9
Goal of starts today. 1st track aged an hour and 15 minutes; 2nd track @ 30 minutes. The aged track had more frequent food drops. Brought Otis in from an angle and he hit the track, overshot the left turn by just a bit but came back to it and finished strong. He did well with a “leave it” on some dried bones. Great article retrieve. Water and back to the car. Laid the 30 minute track and waited for it to age. Again, brought him in at an angle. He hit the track, played the line again out to 20’ then at 30 yds worked back up to 10’. He hit the open angle right and again finished strong. Good boy!!! Happy walks back to the car then on to the farm to run.

leave it worked well, you can quietly say 'good boy' when he does leave it. you might try leave it when he stalls out/stares off into space.
ReplyDeletei can't tell where you are on the line, i do see you moving up. remember at the start to stand still at the start flag until 20 ft of line have run out - then step out.
So appreciate the suggestions (and cautionary notes) regarding what to do when O is distracted-very helpful. Also, reminder re full 20’ @ start
DeleteWent back to my map (another benefit of having all details esp FDs marked before laying the track) so was able to see by coordinating video with map how many he actually stopped for. On the hour plus track he stopped for all of them. On the 30 minute track he only stopped at 60 (skipped 30) on the first leg and at 50 on the second leg. Will lay the turn track w/ no food on 3 and 5.
Very nice! Have we tried (on the 4 start tracks) delaying food on at least one track to the second leg?
ReplyDeleteThanks! Plotting my maps using Google Earth in much more detail to also include FDs, article(s) Now when I go out all I have to note are starting time and double line ups. Why didn’t I do this before?! Helpful to go back and coordinate with video to see how many food drops he actually stops for. On the hour plus track he stopped for all of them. On the 30’ track he stopped at 60 on the first leg and at the 50 in the second leg. MA suggested on next track (top hat) I omit food on legs 3 and 5.
