Fall #16
Goal for track was to parallel the woods edge. Used scuffing and 3 scent pads at 10, 30 and 55. He did not stop for the scent pads. His start was not strong. I think I need to put the “Ready Steady Find it” back in his start routine. He was not distracted by the woods and did a nice open angle turn at the cedar. He was not always locked onto the track. He had a good road crossing and I thought a nice article indication.

Not his normal start. Ok to say REady Steady but just don't put any zip or jazz in it. Whisper it. He did well parallel to the woods, the turn was ok. I think for your next class you need blind turns so make sure to ask for that if possible. And the point of scent pads is to stop him there - try not to let him run over the scent pads. I know that means knowing where they are and sometimes that can be too many things in our minds as we juggle the line, hustling up the line, remembering the turns, lineups, etc. But if you can, you should stop him at the scent pads.
ReplyDeleteNot his normal start. If you want to change on one day, whatever. I’d suggest your next day should be starts. Run them at intervals—say 1.5, 2.2.5, and 3 hours. Use your ready steady stuff on any 2, and dont use it on 2. Do make the older starts easier than the younger ones. I am far more inclined to stay this was a hard start, and it was old, and he’s telling you that was too much. Has he done this challenge at 1 hour? 2? Did he nail it at those ages? I totally agree with MAM on the SPs . I try to make sure my dog can handle a challenge at young ages, several times (same challenge different places, different weather etc), before I add a bit of age to it.
