Summer #6

After a long hiatus it was a joy to be back! This past week was the first week I have been able to walk without pain. The weather has cooperated and we had a wonderfully cool AM in the 50s. I laid a track with 2 left turns, a longer leg (130) between the turns. I put food drops at 25 on the first leg, at 25 and 75 ob the second leg and again at 25 on the third leg. Bison Bits which he loves-he ate no food drops. Put an article at 50 on the longer 2nd leg which he found and retrieved. He also picked up and retrieved the final article. I tried to be very conscious of not moving my feet until he committed at the start and at each turn/correction to track. I called him back to the track after he was staring away from the track. Both of these are areas I will continue to work on.

  1. Improved response to stare off. Improved keeping your feet still as he commits. Good first "fall" outing.
Now, go back and watch your "restraint" when he overshoots turn 2. I understand why you did that, you know where the turn is. Look at the video and ask "how will my behavior change" when I DON'T know where the turn is.
So let's chat by phone or I can come, and design a few starts to reinforce HIS search behavior and strengthen YOUR support behavior.

    1. So thankful for your being “picky” as it’s the only way I can improve. Would LOVE for you to come and put in starts and help me to “strengthen his search behavior” and strengthen my support for him. Wednesday, Thursday or Friday next week? Or 9/2 or 9/16? Vinny’s of course 🙂
Glad there was improvement…many many many thanks my patient picky friend!

    2. Have been rewatching Part 2 with the 2nd turn. Was looking for the double tree in the woods across the road which was my line up with the corner of a weed clump on our side of the road. So looking directly into the sun couldn’t see the double tree and saw/mistook an earlier weed clump for the turn clump. At any rate, when I realized my mistake I let the line go fully out until he found the turn and didn’t move until he committed. No excuses, just relaying my remembrance.
