Summer #4
Goal today was change of cover. The start was in very tall grass/weeds. The first leg crossed a closely mown (yesterday) path. The second leg was in the tall grass and turned left onto a closely mown path. (These paths are paths Otis often runs free on each day when we come to the farm) The third leg was on the mown path and had an open angle turn off the path and back into the tall grass. I placed an article @ 15 after the turn as a reward for leaving the path. There was also 🥓! The final article was deep in the weeds-more 🥓! https://youtu.be/8NvwpanSwzk https://youtu.be/tJpnA1rfF_A
Congrats for getting out there to track! Overall he did well. Here are some thoughts on your handling: first turn, you move your feet without paying the line (because you laid the track and know where it goes). Second turn, you stop him from investigating to the right (because you laid the track...) He swings around left and your feet move without paying line for him to investigate and commit (because you laid....). So there's a bit of a theme yes? At every turn, I would stand still and let him take line before your feet move...just like you would if I laid it. On turn 2 when he was wrong, what would happen if you went with him - would he stop in 20 yds and say "opps?" which cues you to back up? OR, would he continue to track nothing because YOU supported his thoughts? This summer, on short fun tracks, would be the time to play with his decisions and your responses. Nice article indications!
