38 degrees 24% Humidity Wind 6MPH across track  Today’s track incorporated a new segment/pattern. The track today had the “old” pattern repeated twice followed by one repetition of the “new” pattern  Old: Scuff 5 FD Scuff 5 Walk 2 FD Walk1 New: Scuff 5 FD Scuff 5 Walk 3 FD Walk 2 So 2 Old and 1 New repeated 3X, 4X, 4X (ran out of room for 5th repeat) Strong starts on all 3; similar behavior on all 3 tracks with no visible change relative to new pattern or increased length of track; skipped multiple food drops to continue tracking; when he would get off the track he would look up, check to either side then often have a head snap back to the track. Picked up article and anxious to have its reward

42 degrees 42% humidity Light frost Sunny with trace of a breeze Double lineup: evergreen in front of light pole Second time doing scuff/walk tracks: Scuff 5 FD Scuff 5 FD Scuff 5 FD Walk 3 FD Walk 3 FD  Track 1 Repeated 3X; Track 2 4X; Track 3 5X Definite steady pressure on line as he tracked. Looked up infrequently then put his head back down to track. The distraction of today and of the first time he did this pattern on Saturday was deer poop. When he got to each article he picked it up and shook it. I’d give him some of its payload, shake, toss and he’d return it for more of its payload

31 degrees  Wind 3MPH  Humidity 44% One week since we have tracked. Otis has been in a boarding kennel while we have been away. He ate while we were away but not very well so food drops probably held even more value than usual. I started his new pattern this morning which was probably not the smartest idea for a green dog that has not tracked after a week HOWEVER after he found the first two food drops and a bit of deer poop he was: light bulb on, head down, fully engaged!  Double line up: peak of house between 2 trees Track 1: Flag S5FD S5FD S5FD W3FD W3FD Repeated the pattern 3 times Sock Clip Track 2: Flag Repeated above pattern 4 times Fleece pocket Clip Track 3: Flag Repeated above pattern 5 times Brown cotton glove Clip Tracks 2 and 3 were even stronger than Track 1 I felt as his head was fully back in the game He picked up the article at end of each track and enjoyed the food, throw, return, play, repeat. A great day!

Track in @ 8:15; ran it @ 8:45 56 degrees, damp grass from overnight minimal rain, 6 MPH breezy Tracks of 40 yds fd every 3, 40 yds fd every 4, 50 yds fd every 5; flag at each start & clip at end with 10 steps between each track Breeze from left to right across track, when Otis veered off track he would put his nose farther down and be pulled back; again distance between drops did not seem to make a difference; enjoyed more play with articles at the end of the tracks Photo of track, double lineup mounded evergreen between 2 skinny deciduous trees

Put in a track for Otis this AM at 7:15. Picked him up at home and ran it at 7:45. The temperature was in the low 30s and the ground was frosty. Following our class work on Tuesday, I established a double line up (peak of house roof between 2 trees) and walked a straight line track of 150 yards broken into 3 tracks according to directions given following Otis' tracking on Tuesday. The first track was 30 yards with a food drop every 3 steps. The second, 40 yards with a food drop every 4 steps, the third, 50 yards with a food drop every 5 steps. I marked the beginning of each track with a flag and put a clip at the end. I walked 10 steps between each track. At the beginning of Track 1, Otis seemed to be looking for the food right after the start which had heretofore always been there. He paused, looked around, put his head down and then began tracking to find the next drop. When he would veer to the right or left on the track he would self correct and come back to the track. This tr...

https://youtu.be/_ZAQKzt4s5g 36 degrees with heavy frost Put in 2 tracks, one 40 steps, one 50. I put food in every step for the first 10 steps then food every other step on each track. When O was distracted I was pleased with how he went back to “work” Still an issue with no interest in the article

https://youtu.be/07UNJR35IpA 2 tracks today 30 steps and 40 steps High value food drops every other step Nose was down to move along and find food Not distracted by traffic Issue: Even though he enjoys finding articles separately from tracking ie picks them up and brings them to me when we play games, he seems to have little to no interest in them at the end of the tracks-knows there’s another track/more food, let’s get to it! Remedy, suggestions? (Tracks are laid in separate areas, not end to end)

First time tracking since 10/21 (At the beach 10/22-11/5: opportunities to be successful non existent ie only one greenspace with manicured grass that every dog on the island had “used” and/or played on.) Did use the articles I had brought for tracking and played find it games with those. Re today’s tracking: went back to the tracking we did last (10/21) and did 3 tracks of  40, 45 and 50 steps. Distracted by walkers on road, sounds in the distance, traffic. Need to go back and will do 30 and 40 footstep tracks Thursday with high value morsels.
